A somber hush blankets the earth,
As shadows fall on sacred worth
The sun withdraws its golden light,
And heaven mourns this holy night
The nails, the spear, the mocking cries,
Echo through the weeping skies
Though silence reigns and hearts are torn,
The dawn of hope awaits the morn
It held the Lamb, so pure, so meek,
No word of vengeance did He speak
Each drop of blood, a silent plea,
For mercy’s gift to set us free
Wood outstretched, both wide and high,
A bridge between the earth and sky
A crown of thorns, a heavy beam,
The darkest hour, a broken dream
A beacon bright through storms and strife,
The cross, our hope, our source of life
Through tears and triumph, through loss and gain,
The Cross of Christ shall still remain
